Blink and you would have missed the St. Rose-St. Joseph (Hamm.) NJSIAA/Rothman Orthopaedics South Jersey Non-Public B quarterfinal.
St. Joseph (Hamm.)'s Alex Giordano won the only contested bout of the evening, pinning St. Rose’s Cameron McManus in 28 seconds at 182 pounds. The other 13 weight classes ended in some form of forfeit.
The Wildcats might have won the only contested bout, but it was fifth-seeded St. Rose which won the dual because it accepted five forfeits to fourth-seeded St. Joseph (Hamm.)'s three on the way to a 30-24 victory. There were five double forfeits in which no points were awarded.
Brian Fromhold (106 pounds), Jake Blomquist (126), Dieter Rowohlt (132), Vincent Fontanez (145) and Richler Innocent accepted forfeits for St. Rose, accounting for all 30 of its points.
Douglas Ferinaccio (113), Gahad Huges (160) and Bryan Butkus (285) won by forfeit for the host Wildcats.
St. Rose won for the third time this season. It also defeated Willingboro, 30-24, and Keyport/Henry Hudson, 36-24.
The Willingboro match played out the same way with St. Rose winning five matches by forfeit and losing the only contested bout by fall.
The ride from St. Rose to St. Joseph (Hamm.) is approximately one hour, 20 minutes in each direction.
St. Rose moves on to the semifinal where it will take on top-seeded and No. 4 ranked Camden Catholic, which had a bye in the opening round.
