PURCE presentation to focus on long-lasting benefits of childhood creativity - Purdue University

The Purdue University Research Center in Economics (PURCE) is offering a lunchtime presentation Nov. 9 that will focus on “The Long-Lasting Benefits of Childhood Creativity.”

Technological change increasingly allows routine tasks to be automated. In the workplace, jobs from bookkeeping to manufacturing to farming are disappearing as employers opt for computers and high-tech machines instead of people. The future of work is uncertain.

Success in the workplace increasingly depends on skills that are resistant to automation. Much has been written about social skills becoming ever more critical to career success. Drawing on her recent research, Victoria Prowse, the Magner Chair and Professor of Economics, will argue that creativity is a key skill in the modern economy, allowing people to flourish despite automation and technological change.

The talk will be held 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. in Rawls Hall's Third Floor Commons. Lunch will be provided. To attend, RSVP online by Nov. 7. Parking is available in Grant Street Parking Garage; parking passes are available at check-in upon request.
