Despite the Wyoming Department of Health (WDH) Tuesday issuing an updated guidance to allow long-term care facilities to permit in-person visitation outdoors with specific guidelines, The Legacy Living and Rehabilitation Center will not be modifying their visiting restrictions at this time to reflect this new health order, according to Legacy Vice President of Continuing Health Services and Administrator Jonni Belden.
“We have a process in place to set outdoor visits into motion,” she said, noting that the local long-term care facility and rehab center is hoping to implement supervised outdoor visits with restrictions within the next 14 days.
Given the fact that they’re had a lab-confirmed COVID-19 case in-house, she said, on top of the increased number of new confirmed cases in the community, they want to move forward carefully and with caution. In the meantime, the Legacy will continue with window and assisted telecommunication visits, per Belden.
Elsewhere across the state, WDH’s new orders will require visits to occur in a designated outdoor space, limiting visitors to two people at a time. Visitors will also be required to undergo health screenings to identify any symptoms of respiratory illness prior to contact with a COVID-19 vulnerable party, per a June 16 release from the Governor’s office, which stated that a facility staff member trained in patient safety and infection control measures will also be present f0r the in-person visits.
Staff and residents must also wear surgical face masks and visitors are required to wear face coverings during all outdoor visits, per the new guidelines.
“We recognize how challenging this pandemic has been for Wyoming’s aging population and their families,” Gordon said. “Isolation can be debilitating for our seniors.”
Routine testing of staff and residents at Wyoming long-term care facilities is ongoing, with the aim of eventually testing 100% of all staff and residents at every facility statewide for COVID-19, the release stated.
“I’m glad we are able to take this step to make in-person visits possible in a safe manner,” Gordon said.
