David M. Guillod
Hollywood producer and talent manager David M. Guillod was arrested in Santa Barbara County on Monday on a variety of felony charges alleging the sexual assaults of three incapacitated women, according to the Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Department.
Guillod, 53, turned himself in Monday morning at the sheriff’s headquarters near Santa Barbara.
A warrant had been issued for his arrest earlier this month, after a 3-year investigation by the sheriff's departments in Santa Barbara and Los Angeles counties.
The Santa Barbara County District Attorney’s Office filed a criminal complaint on June 12 alleging 11 felony counts, including rape, kidnapping, oral copulation, and sexual penetration with a foreign object.
It also included special allegations that the offenses are serious felonies that would make Guillod ineligible to serve any prison sentence in a county jail.
The complaint alleges the sexual assault of one woman by Guillod in Los Angeles on May 21, 2012, and the rape of a woman in Santa Barbara County on Dec. 14, 2014.
The third assault allegedly occurred in Los Angeles County on Jan. 30 or 31, 2015.
Guillod’s alleged victims were identified in the criminal filing as Jane Does 1 through 3.
"Charges were filed after extensive investigations were conducted by the Santa Barbra County Sheriff’s Department and the Los Angeles Police Department, while working in conjunction with the district attorneys of Santa Barbara County and Los Angeles County," District Attorney Joyce Dudley said in a press release Monday.
"After reviewing all the evidence, the Santa Barbara County district attorney requested jurisdiction from the district attorney of Los Angeles to prosecute (the alleged Los Angeles assaults) in Santa Barbara."
Guillod was booked into Santa Barbara County Jail, with bail set at $3 million, Dudley said.
Superior Court Judge Donna Geck ordered that Guillod be subject to GPS monitoring if he is released on bail, and that he have no contact with his alleged victims.
If convicted as charged, he faces a potential sentence of 21 years to life in prison, Dudley said. He also would be required to register as a sex offender.
The complaint alleges that the three women were raped or sexually assaulted by Guillod after he drugged them, rendering them unconscious or unable to resist his attacks.
Geck has sealed the affidavit filed with the court to obtain the arrest warrant.
Guillod is known for producing films including Extraction, The Intruder and Atomic Blonde.
Guillod, who was accompanied by attorney Philip Cohen when he surrendered to local authorities, previously has denied sexual assault allegations that have been made against him.
Cohen issued the following statement Monday afternoon through a spokeswoman:
"For the past eight years, Mr. Guillod has denied these allegations, and for the past eight years Mr. Guillod has fully cooperated with all aspects of law enforcement’s investigation. We find the unification of the cases filed through the Santa Barbara DA’s office and the timing suspicious.
"An overwhelming amount of evidence has been collected over the course of this investigation disputing these charges. DNA has come back negative in the Los Angeles case; percipient witnesses have come forward in support of Mr. Guillod’s account of events; and numerous text messages and emails obtained by the defense tell a story very different than that which is being alleged.
"Additionally, Mr. Guillod has passed five independent polygraph examinations. Mr. Guillod has been vilified for eight years without being afforded the opportunity to examine under oath his accusers.
"Justice is rarely swift and often does not come easy, but Mr. Guillod very much looks forward to clearing his name in the appropriate forum."
A date for arraignment in Superior Court in Santa Barbara had not been set as of Monday afternoon, Dudley said.
