A new fan poster for a Batman Beyond movie starring Michael Keaton imagines the movie DCEU fans want to see. Batman Beyond was an animated series that ran for three seasons from 1999 to 2001. In the years since its completion, it's gained an impressive fan following, many of whom hope to see a live-action cinematic version someday. The series follows a Bruce Wayne in his 70s, years after he's given up being Batman. All of his friends and allies have since left him, and he's become a recluse. However, he soon meets a teenage boy who seeks to become the new Batman, with Bruce adopting the role of his teacher.
So far, a live-action Batman Beyond film has yet to be made. One was in development in the early 2000s, but those plans fell apart with the creation of Christopher Nolan's Batman Begins. Still, fans have long clung to the hope that Batman Beyond will someday get the big screen treatment, and some big news yesterday might have renewed those hopes. Keaton, who is widely considered to be one of the best actors to don with cowl, is in early talks to reprise his role as Batman in the upcoming Flash movie. Should this appearance actually happen, it would open the door for Keaton to appear in future DCEU movies.
It might be a bit too soon to begin planning for a Batman Beyond movie with Keaton at the center, but that hasn't stopped excited fans from imagining would could be. This latest fan poster from BossLogic considers what Batman Beyond would look like, with Keaton lurking in the shadows of his younger protege. Plus, he's not the only one lingering in the background. The current plan indicates Keaton will take on a mentor role within the DCEU, similar to how Nick Fury operates in the MCU. This would fit in especially well with a hypothetical Batman Beyond movie, as the central premise of that would have Bruce acting as a teacher. Additionally, Keaton is currently 68, which makes him the perfect age to play a Batman Beyond Bruce.
The parts are (slowly) moving into place for Batman Beyond, but that's still no guarantee that it'll actually happen. For one thing, Keaton actually has to get confirmed for The Flash. Still, the fan interest for Batman Beyond is certainly there, and perhaps if Warner Bros. sees that, they'll consider pursuing it as an idea. Fans will just have to wait and see what Keaton's DCEU future holds.
