Bill Murray makes lasting impression while in Omaha for Berkshire Hathaway meeting - Omaha World-Herald

A Bellevue resident encountered actor and comedian Bill Murray twice Sunday morning in downtown Omaha and came away thinking he met one heck of a nice guy.

Bill Murray and Jeff Siedlik

Bill Murray, left, and Jeff Siedlik bonded over doughnuts Sunday morning in downtown Omaha. Murray told Siedlik that he was in town for the Berkshire Hathaway meeting.

Jeff Siedlik, 52, owner of Commercial Solutions Insurance, decided to get doughnuts to take home after attending early Mass at St. Mary Magdalene near 19th and Dodge Streets. He went across the street to Astute Coffee, where he noticed Murray sitting at a table.

“I had to shake his hand and tell him that my wife is getting tired of me using his one-liners every day on her,” Siedlik said. “He said, ‘Then you should buy your wife a doughnut.’”

The pair shook hands, and Siedlik resisted asking for selfie out of respect for the star’s privacy. Siedlik went to the church parking lot and got into his pickup truck thinking that would be the end of a nice story. It was not.

“Leaving, I see Bill Murray and his significant other walking down the sidewalk,” Siedlik said. “Bill notices an empty food container laying in the road. I saw him pick it up and when I looked around there wasn’t any trash can anywhere near him. He just kept walking holding onto the trash.”

Siedlik pulled up beside Murray in his red, Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck, rolled down his window and offered to let Murray drop the trash off into his truck.

“Bill said, ‘Thank you and by the way, what type of doughnut did you get your wife?’ I said, a raspberry-filled donut,” Siedlik said. “He replied, “A raspberry-filled doughnut being delivered in a raspberry (colored) pickup truck.”

That interaction led to Murray inviting Siedlik to take a photo with him beside the truck. Murray told Siedlik he was in Omaha for the Berkshire Hathaway annual meeting, Siedlik said.

“He told me how much he liked visiting Omaha,” Siedlik said. “I came away thinking what a great guy he is, coming to town being so gracious and bothering to pick up trash nobody else seemed to notice.”

The photo with Siedlik was not the only one Murray posed for Sunday. Visit the Astute Coffee Facebook page and you will see a photo of the “Caddyshack” star with the whole crew.
