“We are doing this in honor of our late son who died a year and a half ago,” said Aaron Shimer (top row, second from left). Aaron and wife Jeanine (bottom row, right) gathered family and friends to pick up trash near the Dempster Street L Station on Earth Day. Their 14-year-old son Rowan died in an equestrian accident just before the start of his freshman year at ETHS in 2022. Every month, the family creates a team to volunteer. Last month, they packed lunches for Connections for the Homeless. “For us, it’s therapy,” said Aaron.
