RALEIGH, NC. - Although the pursuit of bringing a second Stanley Cup to Raleigh remains on, the Canes picked up a third consecutive division title this season.
After winning the Discover Central Division during the COVID-19-shortened 2020-21 season and taking the top spot in their return to the Metropolitan Division in 2021-22, Rod Brind'Amour's club made it a three-peat this time around.
Three Division Championships In A Row
The New Jersey Devils caught the attention of many early in the season, bursting out of the gate with a 21-4-1 start to their season. It felt as if the Canes would have their work cut out for them if they'd hope to obtain a third straight crown.
Carolina was no slouch sitting in second, but 14 wins and 12 losses in their first 26 games brought about a few questions.
However, beginning on American Thanksgiving the Canes sprung into their spot as the second-best team in the league. Going 42-15-5 the rest of the way, only the Boston Bruins and their historic regular season finished with a better record.
As a part of the Canes' run, the team produced a franchise-record 17-game point streak, earning at least one point in each game played from November 25 - January 1. Including 11 consecutive wins (also a franchise record), Carolina leapfrogged past New Jersey and into the top spot in the division on December 20, a place they'd hold until the regular season ended on April 13.
Although it got close toward the end, the team spent a total of 129 days in first place and became just the third team to capture three straight division titles since 2013, joining Anaheim (2013-17) and Washington (2015-19).
