Jordan Davis creates lasting memory with touchdown on Senior Day - 247Sports

ATHENS, Ga. -- Jordan Davis has accomplished quite a bit at Georgia but he did something in what is likely his final game inside Sanford Stadium that he hasn't done since high school. He scored a touchdown.

On 1st and goal from the Charleston Southern three-yard line, Davis lined up at tight end, motioned into the backfield, and took the handoff. He was stopped at the one-yard line. The Bulldogs did the exact same thing on the next play and Davis prevailed this time, crossing the goal line.

It got UGA on the board and the team went on to score 28 points in the first quarter, 49 in the first half, and it coasted to victory. But Davis wasn't done. Once the game was over, he made his way over to the Redcoat marching band and he led the group as they played the UGA fight song to cap off a day he'll never forget.

"If today wasn’t my favorite memory, I don’t know what to tell you," Davis said. "You kind have really don’t know until you retrospect and reflect. But, as for a parting message, I just want to say thank you. You took a kid from Charlotte, not highly recruited, not the biggest name on the planet, and made him who he is and supported him every step of the way. I just can’t thank Dawg Nation enough. You know, you can feel the love in the air, and it just made this day truly special. Whether (or not) this is my last game at Sanford Stadium, I ended out with a bang. I’m truly happy with the result and I’m glad everybody could be part of it."

Davis was asked what felt better, a tackle for loss or a touchdown? He may have displayed a tinge of jealousy in his answer when he pointed out how running backs and receivers are "very lucky" to experience that feeling on a regular basis.

The 6-foot-6 340-pound defender has been begging for the opportunity. Davis, along with sophomore defensive tackle Jalen Carter, has been a part of a special short-yardage package for UGA all season. He normally lines up at tight ends, fires off the ball, and helps pave the way for Zamir White to score touchdowns.

Last year, in a win over Tennessee, Carter got a chance to play a little offense. He lined up at fullback, leaked out of the backfield on place action, and caught a short touchdown pass. Davis got his opportunity on Saturday, even if it did take a couple of tries to make it happen.

The home crowd went bananas when he scored, but it started much earlier. When the Bulldogs motioned Davis into the backfield, the writing was on the wall.

"Whenever we shifted out and everybody saw what was going to happen and the stadium went crazy, I was like, just get him the ball," Stetson Bennett IV said. "Make sure he doesn't fumble the ball, get him the ball and hopefully nobody took a picture right when I was handing the ball off because I'd look pretty small."
