Amazon Studios is developing a biopic about the Seattle-based classic rock band Heart according to vocalist Ann Wilson.
Speaking with SiriusXM’s “Volume West” host Lyndsey Parker, she revealed the movie will chronicle lead vocalists and sisters Ann and Nancy Wilson’s childhood and rise to fame.
A first draft of the script has already been completed but the project is still in early development so casting has not yet been determined.
Wilson says: “A few actresses have come forward, but no one that’s right” before adding that Anne Hathaway was one that stepped forward and isn’t “exactly right for it”.
Formed in 1970, Heart broke through in the latter half of the decade with hits like “Barracuda,” “Crazy on You” and “Magic Man” which was soon followed by legal issues over contracts and ultimately the band splitting from its original line-up.
The movie will chart the bittersweet period in the 1980s when Heart was most commercially successful but felt it had given up artistic freedom, ahead of its comeback and creative resurgence in the late 1980 early 1990s with hits like “All I Wanna Do Is Make Love To You” and “Alone”.
Carrie Brownstein, guitarist of punk band Sleater-Kinney and star of “Portlandia,” will write and direct the film. Lynda Obst (“Flashdance,” “Sleepless in Seattle”) will produce the project.
