The Prime Minister described India's G20 presidency as a momentous opportunity to shape the world's agenda and shared his insight into the evolving global perspective toward a more human-centric world.
He also said that the world's traditional GDP-centric view is shifting towards a more inclusive and human-centric approach, and in this transition, "India playing the role of catalyst," PM Modi asserted.
Global welfare guided by 'Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas'
He emphasized the transformative journey India is undertaking and its commitment to the principles of "Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas" on a global scale. This can also "serve as a guiding light for the welfare of the world," he stated.
A developed India by 2047
On India's development goals, PM Modi shared an ambitious vision. "India will be a developed nation by 2047," he declared. "Corruption, casteism, and communalism will have no place in our national life."
Reflecting on the significance of India's role in the G20, PM Modi said "In G20, our words and vision are seen by the world as a roadmap for future and not merely ideas."
From hungry stomachs to aspirational minds
Addressing a longstanding perception, PM Modi remarked, "For too long, India has been seen as a country of 1 billion hungry stomachs. Now, it is 1 billion aspirational minds, 2 billion skilled hands."
India's ascent on the global stage
PM Modi spoke of the unique opportunity before the Indian populace. "Indians today have a great chance to lay the foundation for growth that will be remembered for the next thousand years," he affirmed.
He expressed his confidence that India would soon be counted among the top three economies in the world. He cited the country's record of jumping five spots in less than a decade. "India's economic progress is undeniable, and it is on a trajectory to be one of the world's foremost economic powerhouses," PM Modi told PTI.
Asserting sovereign rights
Addressing recent objections from Pakistan and China regarding G20 meetings being held in regions like Kashmir and Arunachal Pradesh, Prime Minister Modi dismissed their concerns. He affirmed that it was natural for India to hold meetings across its entire territory and said "It's natural to hold meets in every part of the country."
Promoting diplomacy in conflict resolution
In the midst of the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict, PM Modi emphasized the importance of dialogue and diplomacy. He said, "Dialogue and diplomacy are only ways to resolve different conflicts in different regions."
Cybersecurity and countering cyber crimes
PM Modi underlined the growing importance of global cooperation in the fight against cybercrimes. "Global cooperation in fighting cyber crimes is not just desirable but inevitable," he noted.
He urged the international community to take cyber threats seriously, including cyber terrorism, online radicalization, and money laundering.
"Cyberspace has introduced an entirely new dimension to battle against illicit financial activities and terrorism," the PM said. "Terrorists using darknet, metaverse, cryptocurrency to fulfill nefarious aims; can have implications for the social fabric of nations," PM Modi added.
The impact of misinformation
Prime Minister Modi also addressed the growing concerns around fake news and deep fakes. "Fake news and deep fakes can cause chaos and loss of credibility of news sources, can be used to fuel social unrest."
PM Modi said there is a need to achieve a comprehensive international convention on countering the use of ICTs for criminal purposes.
Economic stability and responsibility
Reflecting on India's domestic policies, Prime Minister Modi attributed the country's growth to political stability over nine years, which enabled several key reforms.
He cautioned against irresponsible financial policies and populism, stating that they might yield short-term political results but extract a great social and economic price in the long term. PM Modi also said India's G20 presidency also sowed seeds of confidence in countries of the so-called third world.
India as a global solution provider
PM Modi said that once viewed solely as a vast market, has now become an integral part of the solutions to global challenges. He reiterated that the theme of India's G20 presidency, 'Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam' (The World is One Family), is not merely a slogan but a comprehensive philosophy derived from India's cultural ethos. "Our domestic approach to uplift the most backward and neglected is guiding us at the global level," he stated.
Advancing the energy transition
One of India's key initiatives on the global stage is its pitch for a global biofuels alliance. PM Modi said, "India's pitch for global biofuels alliance aimed at creating options for developing countries to advance their energy transition."
People power in G20 programs
"Over 1.5 crore Indians involved in year-long G20 programmes," the Prime Minister said. This widespread participation underscores India's commitment to engaging its citizens in shaping the nation's global agenda.
The PM also said that his predecessors lacked confidence in people of other states to successfully execute high-profile global meets outside Delhi. "We will continue constructive contribution well past our G20 presidency," he said.
PM Modi also hailed the G20 ministerial decisions. "G20 ministerial decisions taken across all domains will prove to be "pivotal" for the world's future," he said.
India's progressive path
"International community is convinced India's progress not an accident, it's result of action-oriented roadmap," PM Modi said.
Historic reforms in international taxation
PM Modi emphasized the significance of a multilateral convention on taxation and said, "Multilateral convention on taxation will allow countries, jurisdictions to move forward with historic reforms in the international tax system."
He also addressed the debt crisis saying that it is a matter of grave concern for the world, especially the developing world.
Technology for equality and inclusion
India is making technology an agent of equality and inclusion, PM Modi highlighted.
Climate change approach
PM Modi advocated for a constructive approach to climate change. He said that the approach should not be restrictive but constructive; shouldn't focus on "don't do this or that". "There are no one-size-fits-all solutions in fighting climate change," he said.
India's unique energy transition pathway
Talking about India's 2070 net-zero target, Prime Minister Modi said that India's pathway for energy transition would be different from that of other nations.
Reforms in international institutions
PM Modi called for reforms in international institutions and said "Mid-20th century approach cannot serve the world in the 21st century." He also said that international institutions need to recognise changing realities, relook at their priorities and ensure representation of voices.
Smaller regional forums
Prime Minister Modi noted that smaller regional forums would become more important if larger multilateral institutions do not adapt to changing times.
India's four 'D's
PM Modi highlighted India's strengths: democracy, demography, diversity, and development. He reaffirmed India's commitment to enhancing the quality of life for its citizens while preserving nature and culture. "Quality of life of our people will be at par with best; will achieve this while caring for both nature and culture," PM Modi said on 2047 vision.
