A lot of people remember exactly where they were on September 11, 2001. But to many, the terror attacks 20 years ago are much more than just a memory -- they’re events that continue to deeply impact their daily lives, physically and mentally.
More than 70% of New York City firefighters who responded to 9/11 have been diagnosed with related physical or mental health conditions. And as many as 20% of adults who were exposed to the disaster have PTSD symptoms. This is roughly four times the rate of PTSD symptoms found in the general population.
In 20 Years Later: The Lasting Pain of 9/11, we hear from survivors, family members, mental health experts and doctors to better understand the long-term impacts of both physical and emotional health.
