SDCC 2020: The New Mutants Comic-Con trailer gives away everything - Polygon

The New Mutants still isn’t out, and it won’t be for at least another month, but during the movie’s Comic-Con@Home panel on Thursday, fans did get to see something new: The entire first scene of the movie and a new trailer.

New Mutants opens with the familiar Marvel logo, before fading to a black screen while Danielle Moonstar (Blu Hunt) tells a story about how each person has two bears living inside them, one good and one evil — yes, it’s basically the story of the wolves but with bears instead.

After the title card appears, we see Dani and her father escaping from their exploding cabin and rushing outside into the snow. Once he gets her to safety, her father goes back to help more people, but is quickly killed by whatever it is that attacked their home. The movie fades to back again, and Danielle wakes up in a hospital bed, presumably in the location where most of the movie will take place.

From there, the panel cut to a new trailer, which showed off more of the movie’s monsters than we’ve ever seen before. It starts out with brief narration that reminds us that the hospital the young mutants are trapped in will display their greatest fear, then we get our clearest look yet at some strange faceless creatures that seem to be attacking the kids, especially Illyana Rasputin (Anya Taylor-Joy). Finally, the trailer gets to its big reveal: a massive demon bear, which Illyana runs at with her sword drawn.

Both the new trailer and the brief opening scene debuted the end of the New Mutants Comic-Con panel, in which the cast, including Maisie Williams, Anya Taylor-Joy, Blu Hunt, and Charlie Heaton, talked with director Josh Boone about their characters and how excited they were for the movie to finally get released.

Another piece of good news for New Mutants is that it didn’t technically get delayed during the panel. The movie’s release date remains Aug. 28 ... at least for now. Despite all the speculation that the movie would be getting a VOD or Disney Plus treatment, the Comic-Con panel announcement was careful to specify that the movie is definitely coming to theaters ... eventually.
